Great Autumn walks

Kate and Spencer from Poltarrow Farm introduce their favourite Autumn walks in Cornwall.  Most Sundays they can be found out and about, along with their sons Guy and Edward, road testing days out to give their guests top tips and insider knowledge.

Cardinham Woods, near Bodmin

Back when pushchair friendly was essential Kate and Spence, St Austell would head to Cardinham Woods to witness the shifting colours of autumn.  The Forestry Commission maintained woodland near Bodmin is a wonderful place for a visit with walking trails to suit all abilities.  650 acres of woodland that offers four waymarked trails and miles of paths and tracks to enjoy.  Children can be entertained at the play area which conveniently lies next to the Woods café (excellent cakes) in which to refuel after a day of exploring.

Tehidy Woods near Camborne

The largest wood in West Cornwall, Tehidy has over nine miles of paths and 250 acres of tranquil woodland that features lakes, a café, and a picnic area. The wildlife of Tehidy Woods is so abundant you will often spot squirrels, robins, swans and many other birds.  Tehidy often forms a half way meeting point with Spencer’s West Cornwall dwelling family!

Trelissick Estate

Owned by the National Trust, the Trelissick estate near Truro boasts a grand country house and woodland walks blessed with maritime views. Free (apart from car park) to walk through the estate down to the shore.

Golitha Falls

Kate and Guy’s favourite, this series of cascades and waterfalls delight along a section of the River Fowey as it passes through Draynes Wood on Bodmin Moor. The water is always fast flowing here, providing a dramatic features that winds through picturesque woodland.   Inkie’s Smokehouse BBQ situated in the car park is not to be missed for Instagram worthy meat baps and hot chocolates!

Lanhydrock Estate

Situated between Bodmin and Lostwithiel, this late Victorian country house (National Trust) has a magnificent garden and wooded estate that hosts trails and treks to keep young ones entertained.  Keen cyclists can take their wheels through the autumnal woodland before quenching their thirst in the restaurant and cafe.  Lovely play area too.
