Tregonan
Discover Tregonan tucked away down a half-mile lane amidst its 300-acre arable and beef farm. A spacious house set in a secluded garden, it lies six miles west of Mevagissey on the threshold of the renowned Roseland Peninsula. Tregonan was mentioned in the Domesday Book. From 1540 and again in the 18th Century, it was a former home of the Tremayne family, founders of Heligan Gardens three miles away, with the village of St Ewe between. The spired church at St Ewe boasts a Rood screen, which was 'kept safe' during the Civil war and the Tregonan aisle is the south aisle. The Eden project is within easy reach being just 13 miles away. Caerhayes Castle gardens noted for Camellias, Magnolias and Rhododendrons is three miles south; here also is Porthluney beach. Nearby is the coastal hamlet of Portholland where time has stood still - on approach you might have to wait for a pheasant to cross the road! In early Spring the daffodil fields bring refreshing brightness and later the tall hedgerows abound with wild flowers. Locally there is a wide selection of eating-places, walks, gardens and beaches. To help explore, O.S. maps are available to borrow.
